There is an infinite amount of things you can do with a single piece of paper. My experience with paper is very much the same as anyone else’s, but also somewhat different. It is available right at our fingertips. It is used to print things on, to write things on, to draw things on. It is used to create books, to give instructions, to inspire a sense of creative freedom. In my case, I fell in love with folding it. In second grade, I was introduced to the art of folding paper, origami. From simple shapes, to complex objects, to extravagant animals; a piece of paper’s possibilities extended far more than I could have ever imagined and my love for it grew. I’ve invested years learning to fold paper, to create objects and animals that people would not deem as possible with paper at first glance.
Though it is described that a piece of paper has endless possibilities, is there a possibility to actually reach the limit of what a piece of paper is capable of doing? In fact, the universe itself is also never ending. How many endless possibilities exist within the universe in terms of life and the constant creation of planets, stars, galaxies, and more? Isn’t it more limitless than something man made, a single piece of paper? Would it even be fair to compare a piece of paper to the universe? Humanity once lived without paper, but humanity cannot exist without the universe.
Paper has brought forth many wonderful things to human society, and has sprouted individuality amongst humans. Without paper, art, literature, reading or writing would not even exist. How would the world be able to communicate without a voice? How would we have brought forth more technological advancements, without the use of extensively written and printed texts? It may seem to be that the simple creation of paper has been the root of an artistically, technological, and individualistic fruitful world.
